THE PROPHETS IN ISLAM (PBUT)

The Islamic definition of a prophet is someone who has been chosen and favoured by Allah (God) to convey his message to the people on earth and to bring them to believe in and worship him alone. In Islam there are two types of prophets, one is the Nabi who are regular prophets sent to do as mentioned. The second type is the Rasool who are high prophets or messengers as they were sent a revelation in the form of a holy book, they are obviously higher in status.

Islam has 124000 prophets. The Prophet Muhammad was the final and greatest of them. Though mostly it's the Semitic prophets of the Middle East that are mentioned in the Islamic faith. This isn't to say the Europeans, Native Americans, Africans, central Asians, Aborigines, South Pacificers, Indians, Far easterners etc weren't sent prophets as Muslims believe that Allah sent prophets to every people.

According to Quran ALLAH sent prophet's to humanity, in different times & places to communicate His message. Since the beginning of time, God has sent His guidance through these chosen people. They were human beings who taught the people around them about faith in One Almighty God, and how to walk on the path of righteousness. Some prophets also revealed God's Word through books of revelation.

HAZRAT IBRAHIM (AS) ABRAHAM, Approx 3400 years after advent of Adam. The name of Ibrahim (AS) mentioned in Quran for 69 times. Ibrahim (AS) is regarded by Muslims today as one of the significant prophets, because he is credited with rebuilding the Kaaba in Mecca. His family, including his son Ismail (AS), is also credited with helping create the civilization around Mecca that would later give birth to the final prophet of Islam, Muhammad. Yusuf (AS), son of (Yaqub AS) and great-grandson of Ibrahim (AS), became a prominent advisor to the king of Egypt since the king was believed to have seen a dream, which was interpreted by Yusuf (AS) that predicted the economic state of Egypt. The name of Ayyub (AS) mentioned in Quran for 4 times.According to Islamic tradition, Ayyub (AS) was rewarded by a fountain of youth, which removed all illnesses except death, for his service to Allah in his hometown outside Al Majdal. HAZRAT SHOAIB (AS) / JETHRO, Approx. 3900 years after advent of Adam. The name of Shoaib (AS) mentioned in Quran for 11 times. Shoaib (AS) was a direct descendant of Ibrahim (AS). According to Islam, he was appointed by Allah to guide the people of Midyan and Aykah, who lived near Mount Sinai. When the people of the region failed to listen to his warnings, Allah destroyed the disbeliever’s villages. When Prophet Moosa (AS) was born, his mother put him in a water proof box and placed the box on the river Nile. She then sent her daughter to follow the little "boat" and see where it went. The box floated towards the palace of Fir'aun, where his men fished it out and brought the baby to him. He wanted to kill it immediately, suspecting that it might be a child of the Bani Israa'eel, but his wife Aasiya, who was a pious woman, stopped him. HAZRAT ISA (AS) / JESUS, Approx. 5400 years after advent of Adam. The name of Isa (AS) mentioned in Quran for 25 times.

One of the highest ranked prophets in Islam, ‘Isa (AS)-Maseeh, (Jesus the Messiah) was sent to guide the Children of Israel. The Qur’an makes it very clear that in Islam, Jesus is not the begotten (physical) son of Allah, but rather a Nabi and Rasul (messenger) of Allah.‘Isa (AS) performed many miracles with the permission of Allah. For example, raising the dead, creating a bird from clay, talking as an infant. Islamic traditions states that he abstained from drinking alcohol. It also states that he received a revelation, the Injil (Gospel), though according to Islam, it has been distorted. Muslims believe that ‘Isa was not crucified Islamic view of Jesus’ death, meaning he was not killed on the cross. Whether he was put on the cross or not is an issue of interpretation. HAZRAT MUHAMMAD (SAW), Approx. 6000 years after advent of Adam. The name of Muhammad (AS) mentioned in Quran for 5 times. Habib u’l A’zam, Imam u’l Anbiya Sayyidina Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah,(53 B.H-11 A.H; 571-632 C.E) [14] is the last prophet in Islam (“seal of the Prophets”). Idolatry of any of the prophets should be avoided, as their messages from God hold the most weight. His father’s name was ‘Abdullah ibn ‘AbdulMuttalib and his mother’s name was Amina bint Wahb az-Zuhriyya. Muhammad (SAW) is considered the most perfect creation by Allah. Born in Makkah in 53 B.H (571 CE), Muhammad (SAW) spent the first part of his life as a well-travelled merchant. He would often spend his time in the mountains surrounding Makkah in prayer contemplating the situation with the city. At the age of forty, during one of those trips to the mountain, Muhammad (SAW) began to, despite his illiteracy, receive and recite verses from Allah which today make up the Qur’an. He quickly spread the message he was receiving, converting a few others in the city, including his wife. He is the last (seal) of the prophets with a message to all humanity. When oppression became intolerable for his followers, Muhammad (SAW) first asked his fellow Muslims to migrate to Medina and later himself migrated to Medina away from the oppressors in Makkah. Muhammad (SAW) served not just as a prophet, but as a military leader who helped defeat the Makkans in 624 during the Battle of Badr. He continued to lead the Muslims as Islam spread across the Arabian Peninsula. He performed the first hajj in 629 and established Islam as it is still practiced by Muslims today. HAZRAT LUQMAN, Hazrat Luqman was a great wise man of Allah. He is famous for laying down the principles of high quality of human conduct and wisdom. He believed in the Oneness of Allah and obeyed His commandment with honesty and commitment. He was a great observer and thinker. He avoided sleeping during the day, and would not sit back in comfortable posture when he had company. He was so mannerly that no one ever saw him spitting. He avoided joking, and laughing lest it would displease Allah. He neither rejoiced over achieving something nor grieved over losing it. He always helped to settle differences between parties. HAZRAT SHAMMIL (AS) / SAMUEL, Ibn Jarir reported that the condition of the Israelites deteriorated. They committed many sins and killed whom they wished of the prophets. Consequently Allah sent them tyrannous king who ill-treated them and spilled their blood, and set their enemies from outside against them as well. They used to go war, taking with them The Ark of the Covenant. They did this so that they would be victorious by its blessings, and it became a symbol of calm and a relic left behind by Moses's people. When they went to war with the people of Gaza and Askalon, they were defeated because the Ark of the Covenant was captured from them.
